Drinks at the Library Lounge at La Faena Hotel and Universe.  This snazzy joint in Puerto Madero must have brought out the Pablo Escoabr in me because I didn’t have any objection to paying nearly US$10 for a single beer.

One of the many no-holds-barred New Year’s celebrations in Palermo.  A pictorial example of why I may consider the South American lifestyle to be substantially better than that of the States.  The DJ spun all night on a street side picnic table while the road became an impromptu dance floor.  No cops, no complaining neighbors, no worries.

A few courses from our New Year’s Eve family style dinner spread.  Comfort food at its finest.  Hearty beef stew, savory chicken adobo, and five cups of freshly steamed sticky white rice.  Our cheese bread appetizer was still in the broiler bubbling to golden brown perfection and the potent post-meal pineapple martinis were undergoing its final stages of infusion.  Never have I salivated so much in my life.

Dinner at Las Mazorcas in San Telmo.  Baked salmon with creamed potatoes, crystalized garlic, topped off with a broccoli cream sauce.

Food portions in Chile are downright preposterous.  When ordering for yourself, not only do you receive an ungodly mass of food, but an equally ludicrous heap of condiments to match.  Pictured here, a single Pancho Italianissimo combo with a normal serving of avocado and mayonnaise.

We stumbled upon this seafood restaurant in Valdivia, Chile near the Mercado Municipal.  Not only was this seafood risotto off the Richter in terms of flavor, but it was a welcomed break from the daily Argentine meat regiment, which, made it even better.  To wash it down our waiter suggested ordering a jarra of the Chilean artisanal beer, Kunstmann.  Love at first gulp and the perfect compliment to our meal.
